Patrick Gantz

Dean of Students

Patrick brings to the theater his ability to teach subjective ideas through concrete steps, an ability honed in his career in research and leadership consulting within the financial services and healthcare industries. An improviser since he was 12 years old, Patrick started the first improvisational comedy group at The University of Virginia. Upon graduation he studied, performed and coached improv in the medium's mecca, Chicago, IL, working with the iO, Second City and Annoyance Theaters. Moving to Washington, DC, Patrick helped build WIT, the Washington Improv Theater, most importantly by writing their first curricula and coaching new teams. His website, improvdoesbest.com, has brought him international attention, specifically for his unique approach to collaborative pattern building. And, closing the circle, Patrick has brought his passion for improv back into his professional life through seminars focused on Active Listening and Collaboration. Patrick is in love with the Coalition Theater, an organization that has distinguished itself from Patrick's other experiences for its commitment to the craft and the community. He hopes he can continue to lead, teach, and play there to his last breath.
